F* ME SHOES

I have been back in LA for about a week. All I notice on people are these amazing shoes. They aren't gladiators and they aren't flip flops. They are Acne Denims summer sandals and I need them in my life. ASAP  Word is they are murder on the feet, but how could looking this good not hurt? Dig?

LONG LIVE THE QUEEN!

This week was hard for Cali, but not all is lost. On Sat. night, Sergio Garcia beat out all the female competition and was voted prom queen at Los Angeles' very own Fairfax High School. As he said in his election contention speech:

"At one time, prom may have been a big popularity contest where the best-looking guy or girl were crowned king and queen. Things have changed and it's no longer just about who has the most friends or who wears the coolest clothes, sure, I'm not your typical prom queen candidate. There's more to me than meets the eye."

In honor of Sergio, let's take a look at some gender-bending and ground-breaking silhouettes found in Pairs during this past Fall's fashion week. Kilts, Skirts, Koolots , Gauchos...whatever you call them, they're here. Get used to it.

STYLEPHILE - WARDROBLY

FEELING IS BELIEVING

I do love a good L.A. based clothing line start-up story. It is the most relevant and modern Horatio Alger story to me. I think it takes guts, drive, and talent; each of which seems too rare yet saturated in Lost Angles. To rise to the top takes some skillz, both social and technical.

Enter Wardrobly into the Arena. Modeled below by creative director Daniel Green, these are some of the best, softest, most luxurious pieces I have tried on in awhile. You'd never know that the team behind the label came from a denim house, as these fabrics are anything but Wrangler! I love the simple de-and-re-construction of it all.

I hope this label has the chops to stick it out.

WEEKEND PROJECT

REST FOR THE WEARY

I love a good "outside of my bubble" experience; sometimes it is all you need to get re-inspired or to recharge the ol' batteries. My dad and step-mom are huge advocates of B&Bs. I have never been to one...until recently in Albuquerque. They are so fun, and the perfect place to regroup your brains.

After a few days on the road, it was an unexpected yet well earned turn that took us to the Heritage House. Deciding to blow off the day's driving to blow off some steam was the only option, and NM was the place. I normally don't do well in the homes of others, but the family next door that ran it was so great! They were extremely welcoming, but stayed way out of our hair. They had lots of great treats around, and we had free reign of the B&B - kitchen and all. Best of all, they had a tiny farm and made our breakfast with fresh eggs. Tres good, and perfect after a night of Karaokque in Albuquerque. Weirdest of all, the house was once the domicile of a national traitor who sold A-bomb secrets to the Russians. Creeptown.

Enjoy the mini vacation photos, then go take your own! I'm sure you deserve a break.

THE SHORT LIST

I'M NAMING THIS ONE "TIM"

Ummm.  Shorts.  It's hard to not wear jeans all the time when you have chicken legs. Shorts have to really be worth it. I don't know if it was the humidity of the Cincinnati Butterfly House or the genius of the S/S 09 line from Tim Hamilton that got me, but the combination makes me ignore my hairy sticks and flaunt my knickers! I have to put these on now!

FANCY FOOTWORK

Backstage Photo: Eric Ray Davidson/NY Times

I tried on the most amazing shoes by Rag & Bone yesterday.  I love the white ones. They are so casual and cool and low key, but make you look classy. Just what I'm looking for. They are like a nice wine for the feet. They are little ballet flats for the guys. I think you can keep them on all day all summer. To the store, the beach, a party, dinner, out shopping - anything you don't have to change is great for summer and gets and A+++ from me!

JUST BECAUSE

EN ROUTE

It's the journey, not the destination...I think it is a little bit the destination. This gem of a knick-knack kept us safe on the road to cali, now I want to focus on being the best best-maid-man-of-honor I can be!

AMERICAN GRAFFITI

I am currently driving cross country to Los Angeles.  Along the way there was a little detour to Cadillac Ranch outside of Amarillo, TX. It is F* thought provoking. Thanks to some German tourists' charity, I received a can of spray paint to make my own mark. I never knew how juiced you can get from a little aluminum can...Find your own car or make some pants - then make a statement.

STYLEPHILE - J.W. ANDERSON

ONCE UPON A TIME...

Through the looking glass and into the woods, across the seas and over the moors. An English professor once told me that any story ever expressed was either 1) "a journey" or 2) "a stranger comes to town." I believe that fairy tales are both, and every good fairy tale should have a prince charming.

I've always adored the classics as viewed through a modern lens. Reapproaching archetypes with an "if they knew then what we know now" attitude can benefit both our understanding of them and ourselves.

While trying to be a modern prince charming, it helps to look back at atypical princes and heroes. I attempt this with my jewelry line (You Macbeth) and J.W. Anderson does this with his F/W 09/10 collection. It is completely gorgeous, like a fairy tale picture book of what is yet to come. Take a look and see, then become your own P.C.

BE ITALIAN

Nine. I'm so ready to see this movie! A lot of buzz has been floating around on it, and with good cause...it looks amazing.  I was so inspired by the trailer that I combed through all the Milan shows. There is so much good stuff, but I picked nine (naturally) of my favorite looks. Now I just have to see to getting into a premiere...
