YARD SALE ---->

It is nice to clear out some space in your life. After all, fashion is ephemeral. It is especially nice when you can make a little cash doing it. Even better, is when you can tidy out your closet, make a little coin, and hang out with your friends while doing it. Group yard sales are perfect for that.

Other bonuses include: seeing your friends' old crap, observing the weirdos that come to yard sales up close, a day outside you can chalk up as productive, furniture outside, and haggling practice. 

TIPS

Use a tree as display.

Display things that spark questions. Interaction = sales.

People love old education books.  seriously.

It can't all be work.

When you are low on customers, go through all your stuff and see what movies you can re-enact. Here we have Aladdin. The one in the middle is the monkey or the genie...I think.

REST FOR THE WEARY 

I love a good "outside of my bubble" experience; sometimes it is all you need to get re-inspired or to recharge the ol' batteries. My dad and step-mom are huge advocates of B&Bs. I have never been to one...until recently in Albuquerque. They are so fun, and the perfect place to regroup your brains.

After a few days on the road, it was an unexpected yet well earned turn that took us to the Heritage House. Deciding to blow off the day's driving to blow off some steam was the only option, and NM was the place. I normally don't do well in the homes of others, but the family next door that ran it was so great! They were extremely welcoming, but stayed way out of our hair. They had lots of great treats around, and we had free reign of the B&B - kitchen and all. Best of all, they had a tiny farm and made our breakfast with fresh eggs. Tres good, and perfect after a night of Karaokque in Albuquerque. Weirdest of all, the house was once the domicile of a national traitor who sold A-bomb secrets to the Russians. Creeptown.

THRIFT

I just got schooled.  I thought I knew the places to go and the ways to rummage, but F* was I mistaken. I was recently taken around L.A. for an in-depth tutorial on how and when to find the best of the best in vintage clothing...and it is WAR. These people are no joke.  Lucky for me, neither was my commander and I am a quick learner. Armed with our keen eyes and quick hands, we left a notable mark on the battlefields of boxes.  

Gone are the days of $100 t-shirts and $80 blazers. I know how to get them all for a nickel! And, they are all fresh from the morgue or jail or wherever these fashionable souls lost hold of their clothes - no middle man, no racks, no hangers, no markets.  

Get it done people. Learn the ways of the thrift.  Dig?

My grandma fell down the stairs. Subsequently, I have been spending a bit of time in doctors' waiting rooms. While the reading pickings are slim, I found a little gem in a Good Housekeeping. I'm in llurve with this idea of cutting up posters and making them a little more interesting over the sofa.  I think posters can look so dorm room, and, as I grow older, I try to avoid that look. I also adore collages, groupings, wall stories...the more the merrier.

Below are some pictures I doctored up to see if there was any anxiety in their separation.  I don't think there is. Try this with a vintage poster or photo. Maybe don't even group them directly together - make them part of a bigger collage...there are endless possibilities. 

After a great fall, it is nice to see that my grandma isn't the only thing that can be put back together again...

NATURE ON A STRING

I always like having cool necklaces.  I used to wear like three at a time, but now I find that just one really rad piece will do the trick.  I also like the idea of keeping something special next to you as a totem.  I will carry rocks or sea glass in my pocket, or keep little trinkets in my bag.  Here is the most perfect idea to combine both quarks...

1.  Get some of these...from a trip or a store or as a gift...

Wrap them up together and you have a sweet little necklace that you can rock all over town!   (pun intended)

I get compliments on mine all the time.  Make one and you will be amazed at how hard people think it is to have something this F* cool.

KNOT YOUR AVERAGE SCARF

I love wearing scarves...actually, I love buying them, I love having them, I love showing them off....and especially love wearing them.  They are just a cool way of bringing quark, color and style into a normal everyday outfit.  I also like finding new ways of bringing them in.  I used to rock the bandit scarf, the do-rag, wrapped around an arm or wrist (all still valid ways of getting one's scarf on), but my new favorite way of knotting and wearing scarves has got to be like this.  Watch the video to see how it can be done on a variety of scarf types, or just check out my sexy grandma spreading her 94 all over this look.
