THRIFT

I just got schooled.  I thought I knew the places to go and the ways to rummage, but F* was I mistaken. I was recently taken around L.A. for an in-depth tutorial on how and when to find the best of the best in vintage clothing...and it is WAR. These people are no joke.  Lucky for me, neither was my commander and I am a quick learner. Armed with our keen eyes and quick hands, we left a notable mark on the battlefields of boxes.  

Gone are the days of $100 t-shirts and $80 blazers. I know how to get them all for a nickel! And, they are all fresh from the morgue or jail or wherever these fashionable souls lost hold of their clothes - no middle man, no racks, no hangers, no markets.  

Get it done people. Learn the ways of the thrift.  Dig?

TIE-DLE WAVE

While visiting my mom, I found this huge bag of the most unusual silk scarves. I'm not sure if they were bows, sashes from blouses, originally scarves, scrap fabric or what. The could possibly be samples from my grandfather who used to work for Christian Dior. Wherever their origin, they are mine now and i ADORE them. Brightly colored and tres chique, they are really fun to use in place of a tie. They can look rather dandy without being stuffy, and people have really been responding to them well!  Even better, they are getting me out of my t-shirt prison and into some button-ups that had been abandoned in the closet. Below are a few ways I have figured out how to wear them.  See if you can find any (or make any) and work them into your wardrobe.

TICK TOCK

I don't think anything looks better on a wrist then a classic watch. I didn't know this until I saw one on my own.  I got my vintage Omega from my dad. Actually, I found it in his workroom...broken...and when he told me I could have it if I could fix it, I didn't think twice.   He got it from his dad as a gift after his 1968 graduation from Notre Dame, and I loved it.  I brought it to a watch shop in LA, and after dropping more on repair than I ever had on all of my past watches put together, I was in awe.   Aside from the innate sentimental value, wearing it makes me feel powerful.  It is fun to wear to meetings, and I love the little ticking sound it emits.  I think it dresses up even jeans and a T-shirt, and I like that I feel like an adult.  Plus, its timeless, understated, original, and so F*ing cool I envy myself.   

SHOPPING - WILBUR VINTAGE

If you find yourself in Philadelphia, head to Queens Village and hit up this amazing vintage/consignment shop.  The owner Dan has the best eye when it comes to collecting the most outrageous goodies.  Every time I walk into this place I find new things I have to get.  Below is a sampling a few of my latest acquisitions.  Don't be jealous,  go to Wilbur and get some for yourself!  There may still be this amazing YSL vintage 80's sweater that I totally should have gotten but was too stupid at the time to pick up there...
