AMSTERDAM MODERN

Who doesn't like a good ol' piece of mid-century furniture...Especially when it is direct from Holland! Being of Dutch heritage myself, my appreciation runs deep under my windmill tattoo. While it is fun to run around Goodwill or other thrift stores to find the rare gems that haven't been snatched up to be resold at ridiculous prices, Amsterdam Modern can save your shoes a little wear and tear by offering a sure thing. This 5000sf Van Nuys warehouse really is the "hidden secret." Check it out, feather your nest cool, but don't tell too many people!

CALVIN KLEIN VS. PRADA

It is getting HOT in Milan! I am loving the shows and the clothes and the drama. Italo Zucchelli's collection for CK was translucent like film, and Muccia Prada's collection was film noir. CK was a futuristic take on classics and Prada was a classical look towards the future. Both we spectacular; rich, young, and very very sexy. But, that is not all they had in common. Is this a TREND ALERT or something sinister?  Lets set the stage for these two super-designers to battle out these coincidences comic book style!

Dig the sheer sleeves. Who wore it better?

The NEW grey suit.

Blazer? Check. Layers? Check. Short-Shorts? Check.

CK goes bold color, Prada goes bold graphic.

Coat? Check, Shorts? Check. Sexy leg muscles? Check.

Sheer and sleeveless. Be careful if you mix and match the collections, or people won't need x-ray vision to size you up.

HMMMmmm...They are both so good, I suppose it is a draw for now...Until we meet again!

RARE TREAT

Being from Cincinnati, I take great pride in being able to brag and cheer about it (which doesn't really happen as much as I'd like), but occasionally the clouds part and lights beam down on the city. One such instance is now my friends!  And, not only is my city in the spotlight, but one of my true heros who happens to hail from the same town is the cause.

A trove of previously unseen Charlie Harper works for the Ford Times and Lincoln Mercury Times Magazines has been discovered. His son Brett commented "I felt like it was opening a buried treasure chest that has been locked up for more than 35 years." I'd have to agree.

Fabulous Frames and Art in Cincinnati will run a show from July 11th through August 8th. Looks like I am planning a trip home!

STYLEPHILE - VIVENNE WESTWOOD

I <3>

Hot off the runway in Milan.  Dying over everything s/s 10 is going to be HOT! I love how throw together it all looks, but there are so many stand alone pieces that I just want to wear. The textures, the colors, the mood. It just makes me so happy! BRAVO!

WEEKEND PROJECT

DAY TRIPPIN'

Its nice to break outside of your bubble. You can get a breath of fresh air and get re inspired simply by leaving your neighborhood. Go anywhere. Doing the same thing with the same people all the time can get overwhelming and stagnant at the same time. I hopped over to Venice, CA and rented a bike and took some photos. I was super into the colors and new shapes and ultra 80s beach action that was taking place. (The hipster seagulls in all black were pretty amazing too) I may not want to move there, but will for sure take a little home with me and bring it into the fold...

SHORT LONG JOHNS

I'm still kind of obsessing over the leggings/long johns things in Tim Hamilton's collection. It must have been on my brain while I was rummaging through the back of my closet and pulled out the most amazing thing!  I must have gotten it for christmas a while ago and never wore it. Well, I am making up for lost time...here are a few ways I have brought it back:

ROBERT GELLER IS SO L.A.

Mushroom tones and vampire style. It is easy to see why Robert Geller's Spring and Fall collections are models' favorites and a very touchstone for cool. The clothes are easy to wear, yet create this hard, vacant, vulnerable image. They are almost violent in a pilled-out Bret Easton Ellis kind of way. I dig it. While he may hail from Hamburg and show in New York, there is something in the aesthetic that is jaded and faded enough to fit totally on the streets of Lost Angeles. Here are my faves Less Than Zero style...Spring left, Fall right.

READ

IMPORTANT ARTIFACTS AND PERSONAL PROPERTY...

I know, I know..."Read?!"  But trust me, it makes sense here. There aren't a ton of words. It is more of a picture book...for adults...with a heart...that has fallen out of favor...

With all of the things that we "ooooh" and "aaaah" over at BlendingReality, sometimes we have to takes stock of our possessions and wonder what they are really worth in a larger picture. What personal meaning have we put in them and how do they tell my story? I hope that each thing I feature on this site tells a little bit about me. I mean, what is the point of having style if it doesn't reflect who you are? We should all put the LIFE in lifestyle.

This sad book/catalog is the objectification of a failed romance. I'm familiar with that one. It is told via photos and lot descriptions of sentimental items belonging to the couple. That caters to my attraction to chotchkies, and my love of snooping around other peoples' homes.

It may not be the feel-good book of the year, but it is worth the read...and it can be one more thing to put on a shelf...

Check out the author's video about the book HERE.

LOOKIE-LIEU

ARTee

I'm liking these shirts. They are similar to the titty shirts I adored HERE, but a little more, i dunno, highbrow? They look like souvenirs from the museum's giftshop that I always wanted to get as a kid, but cooler and with a better cut. They may not make you look smart, but will definitely make you look sharp...and could make you look like you may have at least taken an art history class at a college level which is bound to work in your favor somehow...

WAYNE WHITE

Mireille Mosler Ltd. in NYC is currently exhibiting the works of one of my favorite artists. I first became aware of Wayne White in Los Angeles. I lived across the street from Fred62 which, lucky for me, was a 24-hour diner. Aside from supplementing my 7/11 diet with real food, they also had a few of W.W.'s works on display. I clearly remember a blurry 3am where it took me half way through a milkshake to decode "Food Based Lifestyle" fading into a pastoral distance.

I love that he paints of objects found in thrift stores. I love that he uses bold statements and fonts. I love how modernly nostalgic the works are (both inherently and personally).

The show goes through July 24th. The book is available HERE. Get a milkshake and enjoy.
